A life in photo's

When ever there is moment wether it special or not I always seem to have some sort of camera around. Photos are a life long memory of times, places, people, moments and history you can never get back.

I lost my dad at 19 and I wish I had more photos of us together, my first pregnancy I have 2 photos because I hated having my photo taken. Both of these are moments and parts of my life that I will never have back.

So I decided that I would capture pretty much my life in photos so that when my children grow up they have a story in photos and have there memories there that might otherwise be forgotten about.

People have asked don't I get bored of taking photos? Answer is simply "no."
I started doing this in 2008 when I had my 21st birthday party and since then I don't think I have missed many times from when we have gone out, celebrated stuff, hair cuts, holidays etc and I love looking back now especially with Ellie on all the fun times we have had together. People may get bored off looking but I am not doing it for them. I do it for my children and me.

Photos are wonderful memories of your life that you will never relive again.

Rag curls

I was at a friends when I tried to do her daughters hair with curlers, within a few hours these curls had come out, so I decided there must be a way that you can do curls and them stay in.
I looked on you tube for videos on how to do things as, it's always easier to follow a video rather than directions when it comes to doing hair.

Rag curls are very easy to do but you have to be prepared they do take a while to do

Firstly get an old t-shirt /tea towel infact any old bits of material.
Wash you hair and do the following whilst it is wet for best results.
Cut the shirt into strips long enough for each one to be folder as if you was doing the start of a bow.
Next  you section off a piece of hair start at the bottom lay the hair on a piece of rag now twist up to the root ( whilst the hair is twisting around the rag.
Once at the root tie both end of the rag as if you was starting  bow or knot.
Repeat for your whole head
Once you have a groovy looking hair style spray with water.
For maximum results sleep on it, if you can't do that hair dryer it for at least 30-45 mins or leave naturally to dry for at least 2-3 hrs

Under the rag and then slowly pull the rag away from you hair

Once all out run your fingers through each tight curl giving you an amazing look.

Spray with very firm hold hair spray or setting lotion.

These photos show how rag curls turn out I will be adding some photos of the step by step
Process when I do this on my girls again.

Straw Curls

Straw curls are just as good as rag curls and it's basically the same process but the curls come out a lot smaller and tighter.

You will need water in a spray bottle, straws, setting lotion or hair spray

Firstly wash you hair as it works better on wet/damp hair

Section a small piece of the hair off, start at the bottom of the hair and wind the straw up to the scalp.
Then tie up as in the beginning of a bow or shoe lace.
Repeat for your whole head until it looks like the above photo.
Spray whole head with water.
No my personal preference is to do this at night and sleep on them as it has longer to dry but  if you can't sleep on them or don't want to wait that long dry with. Hair dryer for 30-45mins on a cooler heat setting or leave to dry naturally for about 3 hours.
Please note just because the top parts feel dry after an hour or so the bits in the knot area of the straw won't be this is why I say it's best to sleep on it.

Undo whole head of straws first so it looks like photo above
Run fingers through each ringlet.
Spray with setting lotion or hair spray.

Such an easy way to make curls and these do stay in a lot longer than curlers or heated rollers.

2015 - Some more curls that I did for my niece and friends daughter

Tin foil curls

What you will need : hair brush, heat protection spray, hair straighteners, roll of tin foil and setting lotion.

Time : depends on hair length and if you want thick or thin curls, each tin foil takes around 10 seconds.

I saw this post on Facebook a few weeks ago about how to do hair styles, which got me thinking, I wonder if there is any ways of doing my daughters hair different. So I googled it and I come across tin foil curls, now I have tried curling tongs and straw curls but these are so much simpler. Plus not on aslong so not harming the hair.
To take precautions always use heat protection spray.
You get a small strand of hair ( or a large piece depending on if you want think or thick curls) start at the top, by the root of your hair and wind around the end of your finger. Get a rectangle piece of tin foil around 10cm's put under your finger which has the hair wrapped around it.
Slide the hair off so it's still in "o" shapes fold the tin foil covering all pieces of hair you had wrapped around your finger. Hold hair straighteners on for 5 seconds . Do not touch the foil repeat till all hair is done. The other way to do this is foil all your hair then hold straighteners on after. Depends on what you prefer to do. Unwrap and hey presto beautiful curls. I always spray with setting lotion which I mix 50/50 with water into a spray bottle as it will hold the curls a lot longer.

Simple quick and easy to do.
This photo shows one thick and one think hair curl.
This took me 5 mins to do a quick layer on top of my daughters hair

This list is off Google but I use it daily to check out the sites esp if I am going shopping it's good to plan ahead as any saving add up.

Also if you own a smartphone there is always apps in the app stores that are useful if you are out and about. Type in "voucher" this should bring up lots of apps it's a case of trial and error and by reading the reviews already listed on the apps to help you decide which app or apps are right for you.

Young mum

I fell pregnant with Ellie at 17 and had her when i was 18, i took to it like a duck does water it was amazing the rewards of being a parent are unexplanable and a true gift the first smile was bar far the best thing. I breastfed Ellie which no one was convinced i would, but i proved them all wrong i wasted so much money on bottles sterilisers milk as no one thought i would but i did tell ellie was 6 months. The following year my dad died but i am so glad i had Ellie young as my dad loved being a grandad and if i hadn't of had Ellie when i did he would never had of expereinced that.

Mollie was then born when i was 21 after 2 miscarriages and what a joy she was to have Ellie enjoyed being a big sister i breastfed Mollie for 4 months but she wasnt gaining much weight at all so then had to introduce bottle feeding which was the biggest struggle i tried every bottle going and went to the london baby show and saw a mam stall, it was a life saver! She took to them very well and within a few days was gaining the weight she needed.

I then had Rylie when i was 23 after another miscarriage. I had a home birth with him and was magical! highly recommend to anyone and was so straightforward i had him at 4.30am and the midwives had gone by 5.30am and i was left to bond with him with my 2 sisters in the comfort of my own home. The girls were amazed to see Rylie and were both glad to be Big sisters, they loved to help out. i also breastfed Rylie till he was 4 months when my milk dried up. He then became quite poorly constatnyl being sick a strange rash and was always hungry and crying, the doctors tried many different milks till finally he accepted Neocate and he then was back to the content little baby i had whilst i was breastfeeding.

Ellie is now 8, Mollie 5 and Rylie 3 i'm 26. Being a young mum is great and i am enjoying every minute of it. There is times now i am a single parent that are hard but i have a very supportive family. My mum was young when she had my brother, sisters and me and she is now only in her 40's and its so nice that she has her life back and gets to experience being a nan whilst she is young she coped very well with us and still does and i hope my children will look up to me like i do my mum and appriciate everything i have done and given them in life. They are my world and i wouldnt change my life for anything. Being a young mum is great and i often get "there not all yours are they?" Well i'm proud and i'm sure the politeness and good manners of my children show people that i am doing a grand job of bringing my 3 children up.

The dreaded headlice

Itchy little creatures which have been very annoying for the last 2 weeks. I tried pretty much every over the counter headlice treatment and still after repeating some of them the girls still had them. I then tried the conditioner trick ( putting half a pot of conditioner on leaving for half hour and brushing with a nit comb for half an hour which is very long and although i got a few out it didnt solve the problem.  They was only tiny but they just seemed to multiply. I have never had the bad luck of catching nits so i can only imagine how irratating they can be! On reading up apparantly the saying that they only go on "clean" or "dirty" hair what ever you have heard is an old wives tale.
After not getting rid of them successfully i started to read up on what i could try next! Couldn't believe it when it said to use original lysterine mouthwash! so i thought i would give it ago. To my success i bought it and it worked first time i have since repeated twice more incase there was any eggs left! I did not use the original ( yellow colour) as i could not find any in shops around here and as long as you dont buy the alcohol free one it will work, we used the blue one the only thing it does is mak you sticky but it works. I have also done my hair even though i was checked by numerous memebers and i did read up if you have dyed blonde hair the blue one can turn your hair green but i tested this and for me ( i use nice and easy colour ) my hair stayed blonde and i didnt find any nits or eggs!

My instructions of how i used the Listerine :
  • open listerine and have a carrier bag or shower cap ready plus a towel or tea towel
  • dry hair and head over a sink start at the bottom of your neck as it pours to the front on its own
  • massage it in
  • tie hair up
  • put the carrier bag or shower cap over hair and towel/tea towel on shoulders as it does drip
  • leave for 2 hours
  • wash hair normally
  • comb with nit come
  • repeat again 2-4 days later
  • repeat 5 days later jsut to be on the safe side
  • put hairbrushes in a sandwich bag tip up and leave for 3 days i didnt test this i only did it on combs as i threw the old hairbrushes away.
I hope this helps someone treat the problem if the over the counter products didnt work for you :)

Summer Holidays 2013

With the summer holidays coming to an end i have found that over the last few weeks now that my children are older 8,5,3 there is alot more that can be done with them all participating and not getting bored. We have had so much fun getting an 15ft swimming pool and teaching the children to swim in it, making pizza's and cakes to going to different beaches and collecting shells crabs seaweed etc, we have inspected insects but my favourite of all has got to be the summer bbq where we played rounders ( adults and children) we only got in one game each as the weather was typical for here and rained but we still had alot of fun and made some good memories.
Today my children are going to make a diary and draw what they have done over the last 5 and half weeks this is good to take to school but also to get them to think about all the things that have done, plus a good memory for the keepsake boxes to look back on.
I have throughly enjoyed this summer holidays and am a little sad to know it is coming to an end because i have loved every minute of it.

A trip to Southend with my nan and grandad my sister my niece, nephew, Ellie Mollie and Rylie.

This is my nephew Jake he has not been allowed swimming because he had a trachy but the swimming pool I bought has given him great delight ( shown in this photo ) as it means no one would splash him as everyone understands how dangerous it can be. His mum was able to take him in most days in the summer on his own so he could enjoy something that he has never been able to do.
